About Paxton Center School

Welcome to Paxton Center School (PCS), a vibrant Kindergarten through Grade 8 school located in the heart of Paxton, Massachusetts, at 19 West Street. As part of the Wachusett Regional School District (WRSD), we are proud to provide a safe, welcoming, and inspiring learning community where every student is known, valued, and encouraged to thrive.

Our school serves students across three grade-level divisions:

• Primary School: Kindergarten–Grade 2

• Intermediate School: Grades 3–5

• Middle School: Grades 6–8

Part of the Wachusett Regional School District

Paxton Center School is one of 13 schools within the Wachusett Regional School District, the first regional school district established in Massachusetts. WRSD serves approximately 6,700 students across the towns of Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, and Sterling through one high school, three middle schools, six elementary schools, two K–8 schools, and one early childhood center.

Governed by a 16-member elected School Committee and supported by nearly 1,000 dedicated educators and staff, the district is committed to ensuring that every student has access to a vibrant, inclusive, and respectful educational community where they can learn, grow, and reach their full potential.

Our Community

Nestled in the scenic hills of Central Massachusetts, Paxton offers students the benefits of a close-knit community rich in history, tradition, and natural beauty. The name "Wachusett" comes from the language of the indigenous Nipmuc (Nashaway) people and means "near the mountain" or "mountain place," honoring the region's deep cultural heritage.

The area is home to many local treasures, including Mount Wachusett, whose 2,006-foot summit offers year-round hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and breathtaking views. The Midstate Trail winds through the region, providing additional opportunities to experience the area's natural beauty.

Paxton's historic town center features a bell cast in Paul Revere's foundry that hangs in the steeple of the First Congregational Church, overlooking the Town Common. These strong community connections enrich the educational experience at Paxton Center School and reinforce our commitment to developing students who are engaged learners, caring neighbors, and responsible citizens.
